GOVERNOR NEWSOM’S CALL FOR REDISTRICTING

Joy Silver, Chair of the Riverside County Democratic Party, announced her strong support for Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposal to place a statewide ballot measure before California voters on November 4, 2025, allowing mid- decade redistricting if other states change their congressional maps before the next scheduled redistricting in 2030.

If approved, the measure would authorize the independent redistricting commission to revise California’s maps mid-decade if other states change theirs, ensuring that Californians’ representation in Congress remains fair and proportional.

“This is about fairness, accountability, and protecting our democracy from partisan power grabs. Our country desperately needs a check on Donald Trump’s power. If Texas and other Republican-held states try to rig the rules to send more MAGA extremists to Washington next year, California has a duty to the country to stand up and act. Trump and his allies have made it clear they will do whatever it takes to cling to power. Ballots will be mailed to voters in October.
